Tips and Tricks for Work Appropriate Halloween Costumes

When choosing a work appropriate Halloween costume you have to take a few things into consideration: the topic, the dress code and comfort.

Topic
First you want to ensure that you have a topic that would be considered acceptable at your workplace. Although many costumes are considered funny to you and your friends they may not be considered funny to your co-workers and boss. Typical costumes which might not be suitable based on topic are anything religious, ethnic, rude or making fun of other co-workers. DONT: Dress as Jesus. DO: Dress as Elvis.

Dress Code
The next thing to consider is the dress code at work this one is more suited towards the ladies. You want to ensure that although you're dressed up for Halloween you're not dressed too risque or showing too much skin. There is a fine line between choosing an appropriate and un-appropriate costume. If you choose a skirt or shorter dress be sure that it's no shorter than you normally would wear. If shopping at BuyCostumes.com, for example, it's best to stay away from the sexy costumes section.

Comfort
The final thing to consider is that you have to spend the entire day (8+ hours) in that costume. Make sure that you take into consideration sitting and/or standing for long periods of time depending on your job. Something super tight fitting might look good but is probably not the best choice for the entire shift at work.

Here are a few ideas that would be considered NOT work appropriate costumes: Borat, Adam and Eve and The Shocker.

Here are a few ideas that would be considered work appropriate: Orange Tuxedo (from the dumb and dumber movie), Alice in Wonderland, a Pirate or Bumblebee.

Hopefully these tips and tricks help you to choose a costume that won't have everyone looking at your costume in the wrong light. You want to show your Halloween fun but not at the expense of your job!
